Acorn Trio Wool Applique Pillow
Whenever I'm out hiking with Winston (my corgi) I pick up "Treasures." Really they're just little bits of nature, like an unusually colored leaf, a piece of bark with a hole in it, a dried gourd, or acorns. I fill my pockets and when I get home I empty the contents into a bowl on my desk to await further inspection. Most of the time it ends up in the dust bin, but occasionally a spark of a idea appears.
The variety of color and shape of the acorns were the inspiration for this design. My original idea was to have four acorns (see below), but three looked better on the size of pillow that I chose.
This is an easy project that uses only four different stitches. I used black wool for the background, but I think a black cotton with a subtle print would work nicely also.
You will need:
- Pillow Front (fabric A) - One fat quarter of black wool (on model) or cotton
- Pillow Back (fabrics B & C)
- Two different cotton fat quarters
- 1/2 yard of 3/4" wide ric rac (use a color that compliments the fat quarter fabrics)
- Applique - wool (The colors are all in various shades of brown except for the the seed of Acorn #3 and leaves. Use plaids for the caps and leaves. Use solids for the seeds)
