Portuguese Knotted Stem Stitch

This is a quick tutorial on how to make a Portuguese Knotted Stem Stitch. This is a great stitch to use as a flower stem, or an outline stitch.

Stitching from left to right, begin by making a single stem stitch.

Now slide your needle under the stem stitch you just made at the midpoint as shown below.

This will form your first loop.

Repeat the last step moving slightly to the left of the first loop to make an second loop.

Continue to the right with another stem stitch.

Slide the needle under both of the threads and make a loop.

Make a second loop on the left of the first loop.

Repeat stitches as needed.
